Sailing Events around the UK

As we head into summer, the UK plays host to a number of sailing events, check out our pick below for sailing enthusiasts and those just looking for a great day out.

The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth

Teams battle it out on high-speed, flying catamarans, some of the fastest boats and most experienced sailors in the world will be here. Between the 21st and 24th of July six teams will be competing in the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth, which forms part of the 35th America’s Cup sailing programme.

Solitaire Du Figaro

This summer sees the Solitaire Du Figaro annual solo race stopping off in Cowes on the Isle of Wight for the first time in its history. The race which is made up of 4 stages will arrive on the south coast after the race starts in Deauville and will see the solo competitors cover between 1,500 and 2,000 nautical miles. The race also coincides with five days of fun family entertainment in Cowes, featuring food and drink stalls, live music and sailing events for novices. Cowes Week

As well as hosting Solitaire Du Figaro, the Isle of Wight also hosts Cowes Week, the UK’s biggest regatta. There are over 40 races taking place each day, as well as other shore line activities for people to get involved with or watch. Competitors include Olympic sailors, world class professionals and hobby sailors want to expand their skills and the week is drawn to a close with a spectacular firework display.

Vintage Yachting Games

Held every 4 years, Vintage Yachting Games is this year in Weymouth and is a high end event which came about after their discontinuation of the Olympics and is held in different countries around the world. The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) and the former Olympic site will see 300 boats will race as in 10 to 14 different classes.
